About Stillroom
A small practice built around being heard.
We started Stillroom because finding a therapist shouldn’t feel like another thing to get through. Our job is to make the first step easier and every session worthwhile.
Our story
From one quiet room to a team of five.
Stillroom began in 2019 as a single office in Brooklyn, run by our clinical director, Dr. Maya Okafor. She wanted a practice that felt calm, honest about cost, and grounded in research rather than trends.
Today we’re a team of five licensed clinicians working with adults, couples, teens, and families, in person and online across New York State. We’ve grown slowly on purpose, so every client still feels known by name.
What hasn’t changed is how we work: we listen first, explain our approach plainly, and check in often about whether therapy is helping.
What guides us
Three principles behind every session.
Evidence-based
We rely on approaches with strong research support, such as CBT, EMDR, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, and adapt them to your goals.
Collaborative
You help set the direction and the pace. We review progress together and change course when something isn’t working.
Culturally responsive
Your identity, culture, and lived experience shape the work. We keep learning so you don’t have to educate us.
Credentials
Qualified, licensed, and accountable.
Every clinician holds an active New York State license
Advanced training in EMDR, CPT, EFT, DBT, and CBT
Weekly peer consultation and ongoing supervision
Continuing education in culturally responsive care every year
